Improve Castle Ville’s New Performance

On some computers Castle Ville can be laggy, as most flash based games with rich content. We conducted a detailed investigation the last couple of days and we found that users can increase game performance quite easy. There are a few things you need to know before you proceed tweaking system settings:
Once you load the game the pre-loader starts fetching content from the game server. Part of this content is being stored on your computer, while other content is being constantly retrieved from the server. This decreases the game performance because constantly your browser fires up requests and that consumes CPU and RAM.
In Flash based on games each object is a separate resource. In order to render certain resource, the browser has to download the resource from the server, and render it from your computer. More resources you have in a game -> more content gets downloaded by the browser -> more time you need to allow for the browser to load completely the game.
Different Internet browsers and different versions of Flash provide different results. More light-weight browsers allow your Flash player to use more CPU and RAM.
Now, what can you do to get Castle Ville perform better on your computer. Below list the simple rules you need to follow and I promise you – the game will run better:
Use Google Chrome to play Castle Ville. The browser uses very less resources and it is built to spawn separate process for each tab. This allows your computer to mark Castle Ville as a stand-alone process, instead of a child-process, which it would be if you run the game via Firefox or Internet Explorer. In case you don’t have Google Chrome installed on your computer, you can download it from here:
Update your Flash Player to the latest available version. Latest releases of Flash usually contain performance tweaks that can improve game performance. You can download the latest version of Flash by clicking on the button below. Have in mind that even if you already have Flash installed on your computer, by visiting this website Adobe will confirm that you have the latest version, or offer you to update your Flash Player:
Open Facebook with your Google Chrome browser, load Castle Ville and give it a second to load. Since the game is using mouse dragging to allow you to browse through the map, you will need to load the Settings tab using a trick. Drag the map to the bottom left (where nothing but dark grass is displayed), right click with your mouse – the following context menu will be displayed, from which you should select the Settings option:
Click on the Display tab (first one in the list) and make sure that Hardware Accelerationis enabled
Click on the Local Storage tab (third one) and set the storage limit to Unlimited. This allows Castle Ville to store its data on your computer, which increases the game loading time because the browser no longer needs to fetch those huge XML files from the server
Click on the Close button and right click in the game area again to pull up the context menu, displayed at step #3. This time select Global Settings. On the newly opened window open the Advanced tab and click on the Delete Allbutton. By doing this you will flush all of the cache stored on your computer by Flash based applications
By clicking on this button a new window will be opened providing you with a few options. Mark both checkboxes and click on the Delete Databutton on the bottom right Note: Depending on the size of the cache you have stored on your computer, this might take up to several minutes. So be patient and wait for the cache removal progress to complete, do not force-close the window.
Close the Flash settings window and close Google Chrome. Allow a few seconds for the process to quit successfully and start Google Chrome again. Open Facebook, navigate to Castle Ville and give it a minute to download and cache all necessary files to your computer. As soon as your neighbors list gets filled with the profile pictures of your friends, Castle Ville has completed downloading files from the game server.
Restart Google Chrome and open Castle Ville. Now you should see the difference, the game should be loaded a lot quicker, and the game performance should be increased.
